Page B. Pennell, MD, FAAN, FAES, FANA, is chair of neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the Henry Higman Professor of Neurology, Neurobiology, and OB/Gyn. Her research focuses on women’s health in epilepsy, including anti-seizure medication pharmacokinetic alterations during pregnancy and postpartum, with the goal of improving maternal and fetal outcomes. She has been continuously NIH funded for 25 years and was multi-PI of the landmark MONEAD study, Maternal Outcomes and Neurodevelopmental Effects of Antiepileptic Drugs. Her work has informed AAN guidelines, including recommendations for therapeutic drug monitoring during pregnancy to maintain maternal seizure control. Dr. Pennell has authored more than 200 peer reviewed publications. She has been a standing member on two study sections and chaired a study group for NINDS. She previously was president of the American Epilepsy Society, chair of the International League Again Epilepsy Task Force on Pregnancy and Reproductive Health and currently serves as ILAE Ambassador for Epilepsy.
