Alon Friedman, MD, PhD

Alon Friedman, MD, PhD, is professor of neuroscience and Dennis Chair in Epilepsy Research at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, and incoming director of the Neuroscience Center at Sheba Medical Center, Israel. Trained as a physician-scientist and neurosurgeon, he earned his MD and PhD in Israel and completed postdoctoral training at Charité Medical University in Berlin as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow. His research focuses on neurovascular biology, particularly the role of the blood-brain barrier and vascular dysfunction in epilepsy, traumatic brain injury and neurodegenerative disorders. Through this work, he has helped advance novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for brain diseases. Dr. Friedman is a recipient of the Humboldt Research Award and has authored more than 175 peer-reviewed publications while mentoring numerous trainees in translational neuroscience.
