Xin Jiang, PhD

MassGeneral Hospital and Harvard Medical School
Xin Jiang, PhD, is a research scientist in the laboratory of Dr. Clotilde Lagier-Tourenne at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. As a basic researcher, Dr. Jiang focuses on identifying the molecular and cellular pathways underlying Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Her work emphasizes the C9ORF72 repeat expansion, the most common genetic cause of these disorders.
Dr. Jiang’s recent work, published in Science, addressed a long-standing debate in the field regarding the primary drivers of C9ORF72-associated neurodegeneration. Utilizing AAV-based mouse models and CRISPR base editing in iPSC models, her research disentangles the toxic contributions of dipeptide repeats versus repeat RNAs.
Previously, Dr. Jiang conducted postdoctoral research in the same laboratory, where she was awarded the Milton Safenowitz Postdoctoral Fellowship from The ALS Association and a Development Grant from the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She earned her PhD in Neurobiology from the Institute of Neurosciences in China. Dr. Jiang is committed to advancing basic science to identify and guide the design of novel therapeutic targets for ALS and FTD.
