Samira Parhizkar, PhD

Washington University School of Medicine
Samira Parhizkar, PhD, is a neuroscientist and instructor in the Department of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine where she studies how sleep and neuroimmune signaling influence the development and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease and tauopathies. She completed her PhD at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich under the mentorship of Christian Haass and currently conducts research in the laboratory of David M. Holtzman as a recipient of the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award. Dr. Parhizkar’s research integrates sleep biology, microglial immunology and neurodegeneration to uncover mechanisms by which sleep disruption alters brain pathology and to identify therapeutic strategies that protect against cognitive decline.
