Michael Kruer, MD, is a pediatric movement disorders neurologist and neurogeneticist specializing in rare neurological diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders. He is director of the Pediatric Movement Disorders Program at the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s and serves as the institute’s director of Neuroscience Research. Dr. Kruer’s clinical and research work is dedicated to improving the lives of kids with neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly those impacting motor function. Dr Kruer’s lab has led or contributed to the discovery and characterization of more than 50 genetic neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Kruer’s research continues to uncover new causes of neurological diseases in children to improve diagnosis but has more recently expanded to include the development and administration of gene-based therapies and optimization of deep brain stimulation. Dr Kruer’s clinical work and research has been supported by many public and private foundations, industry collaborations and state and federal organizations, currently including the Arizona Biomedical Research Center, the American Academy of Neurology, United Cerebral Palsy, and the NIH.
