Emmanuel During, MD

Mount Sinai School of Medicine
Emmanuel During, MD, is an associate professor of neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and a sleep neurologist whose clinical and research work focuses on REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), parasomnias and sleep disorders associated with neurodegenerative disease. His work centers on RBD as one of the strongest early markers of Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and related synucleinopathies, with the goal of improving early detection, diagnosis, and care before neurodegenerative disease is clinically established.
Dr. During leads translational research using wearable devices, video-polysomnography, computer vision and machine-learning approaches to detect RBD and related motor signatures at scale. He has helped lead international efforts through the International RBD Study Group, including consensus work on symptomatic treatment and multicenter initiatives to harmonize wearable data across sites and devices. His broader program aims to develop scalable, patient-centered pathways that link population screening, expert clinical care, digital biomarkers, and research engagement for individuals at risk for neurodegenerative disease.
