Caroline Tanner, MD, PhD, FANA, is the Roger Evans and Aey Phanachet Professor in Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and Vice Chair for Clinical Research at University of California San Francisco. Specializing in movement disorders, her research includes epidemiology, environmental and genetic determinants, biomarkers, early detection, nonmotor features and clinical trials. She and her colleagues found associations between certain pesticides, solvents and other environmental pollutants and increased risk of PD and identified gene-environment interactions. She is past co-chair of the Parkinson Study Group and participated in over 50 clinical trials. She is a member of the Parkinson’s Precision Medicine Initiative (PPMI) leadership team and leads PPMI Online and the Fox Insight online study. She is co-principal investigator of a home-based fracture prevention trial in people with parkinsonism. She is interested in all aspects of disease prevention. She has been privileged to learn from people with movement disorders and their loved ones and honored to partner with many in the research mission. She has been fortunate to serve as a mentor to talented students from many countries, who themselves are now leading researchers and educators worldwide. Dr. Tanner serves as a director on the ANA Board of Directors.
