Thabele Leslie-Mazwi, MD, FANA

Thabele Leslie-Mazwi, MD, FANA, serves as chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Washington. He is dual-trained in neurologic critical care and interventional neurology/endovascular neurosurgery. Following training, he worked at Massachusetts General Hospital as a member of the faculty of the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, in the multi-specialty Neuroendovascular Group. During that time, he did extensive system-of-care work in the Northeast across six states. He left Boston to assume the Warren and Jermaine Magnuson Endowed Chair in Medicine for Neurosciences at the University of Washington. Beyond his clinical and departmental duties, he has appointments on various national committees, serves in editorial roles on several major cerebrovascular and specialty journals, and has multiple societal roles in key societies in the field. He is involved in clinical trial oversight for a variety of large, randomized, multicenter cerebrovascular trials. While his clinical research has a broad focus, it centers predominantly on acute endovascular stroke therapies. He is deeply passionate about improving care delivery across the spectrum of neurological disease.
