Tammy Smith, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology Division of Neuroimmunology and Autoimmune Neurology at the University of Utah, a staff neurologist at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center and a GRECC Investigator. She is involved in clinical trials in autoimmune encephalitis, multiple sclerosis and MOGAD. Her research interests include investigating presymptomatic biomarkers of demyelinating disease as well as mechanisms driving paraneoplastic neurologic disorders. She is a board-certified neurologist with fellowship training in autoimmune neurology and treats patients with a broad range of neurologic diseases. Her research focuses on immune-mediated neurologic disorders with a special interest in paraneoplastic neurologic diseases and aging. Her teaching emphasizes laboratory testing in immune-mediated neurologic disorders including neural autoantibody testing strategies, assay idiosyncrasies and interpretation of results for patient care.
