Niccolò Mencacci, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of neurology at Northwestern University. He trained in Milan (MD, neurology residency), earned a PhD in Neurogenetics from UCL in London and completed a Parkinson’s Foundation-supported fellowship at Northwestern.
Dr. Mencacci directs the Northwestern’s Movement Disorders Genetics Clinic and co-leads GP2’s Monogenic Network. His research identifies genetic causes of Parkinson’s disease and dystonia, integrating genetic studies with in vitro and in vivo disease models to investigate the molecular mechanisms driving these conditions.
Supported by an NINDS K08 award, he currently studies lysosomal dysfunction in dystonia and neurodegeneration using iPSC-derived neurons and animal models.
