Matthew Harms, MD, is a neurogeneticist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he serves as associate director of the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center and director of the Program in Neurogenetics. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Harvard University and his MD from the University of California, San Francisco, followed by neurology residency and chief residency at UCSF and advanced fellowship training in neuromuscular medicine, clinical neurophysiology, and neurogenetics. His research integrates large-scale genomics, longitudinal cohort studies and clinical translation, with a focus on enabling gene variant interpretation and genetically targeted therapies. He is co-chair of the ClinGen Neurological Disorders Clinical Domain Working Group and chairs the ALS and Related Motor Neuron Diseases Gene and Variant Curation Expert Panels.
