Joanna Fong-Isariyawongse, MD

Joanna Fong-Isariyawongse, MD, is a triple board-certified neurologist, sleep specialist and epileptologist and an associate professor of neurology at the University of Pittsburg. Her expertise bridges clinical neuroscience and human performance, focusing on how the brain sustains focus, decision-making, and recovery under pressure.
Her work integrates sleep science, circadian rhythm, stress regulation and neuro-recovery for high-stakes professionals including athletes, executives, first responders and pilots. She collaborates with the Gatorade Sports Science Institute and ACSM to educate athletes, coaches and trainers on how sleep and recovery affect performance, judgment, and consistency.
Clinically, she specializes in epilepsy and sleep disorders and serves as Director of Critical Care EEG at UPMC. She is the neurology consultant for the Pittsburgh Steelers and an active health policy advocate, serving on committees for the AAN, AASM and ACSM, and as a board member of the Pennsylvania Neurological Society. Her mission is to advance how we train, protect, and optimize the brain for performance, safety, and long-term health.
