Cheryl Bushnell, MD, MHS, completed her neurology residency training, stroke research fellowship and graduate degree in clinical research at Duke University. She joined WFUSM in October 2007, and has held several leadership roles, including associate director of the Women’s Health Center of Excellence, medical director of the Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Stroke Center, Stroke Section chief, and vice chair of research. Clinically, her interest includes both inpatient and outpatient stroke treatment across the continuum, especially the transition of post-acute care and secondary prevention. Her research spans women’s issues related to stroke, including sex differences in risk and outcomes, and was the chair of the first AHA Guideline for the Prevention of Stroke in Women, and the latest update of the Primary Prevention of Stroke Guidelines. She was co-PI for a PCORI-funded pragmatic trial (COMPASS) focused on transitions of care, and PI for comparative effectiveness trial comparing telehealth management (home monitoring plus lifestyle coaching) versus clinic management to manage blood pressure after stroke. She is the co-PI of the Wake Forest StrokeNet Regional Coordinating Center.
