University of California, Los Angeles
Adys Mendizabal, MD, MS, is an assistant professor of neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and a health services researcher focused on advancing equitable brain health. A board-certified neurologist with fellowship training in movement disorders, she holds a master’s degree in health policy and management and additional training in urban bioethics. Her research examines health disparities in neurodegenerative diseases—particularly Huntington’s disease—with an emphasis on early and equitable access to specialty care, work that was recognized with the 2025 American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Health Equity Research Award. In addition to her health services research on Huntington’s disease, Dr. Mendizabal is engaged in broader conversations about equitable neurologic care. She has a particular interest in the role of social policy in shaping brain health, as well as the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in neurologic care. She is an active member of AAN’s Artificial Intelligence Workgroup and has contributed to publications on the potential impact of emerging AI technologies on equitable brain health.
